May 28, 2026: There three name updates for the Alaska Native Entities according to the Tribe Mapping Entity Spreadsheet from the EPA Tribes Names Service.
Description: This layer represents locations of American Indian Reservation lands in the lower 48 states as well as Alaska. The areas include all Reservations associated with Federally recognized tribal entities.
Changes:
May 28, 2026: Two new tribes that share the Wind River reservation boundaries are Northern Arapaho Tribe of the Wind River Reservation, Wyoming and Eastern Shoshone Tribe of the Wind River Reservation, Wyoming. The tribe that has a different boundary name in the 2025 Census geodatabase is Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Census changed it to Qualla Boundary. In addition, three reservation entities were removed due to their Census class code as "D0". See the document of "EPA Geospatial Tribal Data 2026 Update" for the details.

Description: This layer represents locations of Oklahoma Tribal Statistical Areas in Oklahoma. The areas include all Oklahoma Tribal Statistical Areas associated with Federally recognized tribal entities.

May 28, 2026: Two records were updated to the Oklahoma Tribal Statistical Areas (OTSA).
Description: This layer represents point locations for areas associated with federally recognized tribal entities in Virginia that do yet have boundaries in the Census American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaii (AIANNH) feature class.
Changes:
May 28, 2026: No updates were made to the Virginia Federally Recognized Tribes layer. It was discovered that the
2025 Census geodatabase has three records with matching names for Chickahominy Tribe, VA, Chickahominy Indians
Eastern Division, and Rappahannock Tribe, VA. However, they are the Tribal Designated Statistical Areas (TDSAs). According to Census’s Help Desk for the Census TIGER/Line data, TDSAs are statistical areas created by the tribe and the Census Bureau through its Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP); TDSAs are not depictions of reservations or trust lands.
