Description: TMDL Cycle Years include 1998-2012. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has oversight authority for the 303(d)
program and is required to review and either approve or disapprove the Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) submitted by states. If the EPA disapproves a TMDL submitted by a state, the EPA is required to establish a TMDL for that waterbody. A Total Maximum Daily Load, or TMDL, is a calculation of the maximum amount of a pollutant that a waterbody can receive and still safely meet water quality standards.
For examples of TMDLs put in place by the EPA, visit <a href="http://water.epa.gov/lawsregs/lawsguidance/cwa/tmdl/examples_index.cfm" target="_blank">Examples of Approved TMDLs</a>.
